Glitchtale Wiki

"I'm supposed to be the one asking you questions over here! What would it look like if we turned it into some foolish adventure?"
"We'd be having fun! That's what it looks like. You've been boring your whole life, Mila. Don't you want to know what it feels like to do something you're not allowed to do?"
"That's hardly something I've ever dreamt about!"
Mila Rutrow and Sae Ereny

Unlikely Friends is a prequel story that provides depth into Sae Ereny, a character that will appear in Meropos. It was written by Devour.[1]

Plot[]

Rin Winterway visits Mila Rutrow at the Royal Castle of Amikeko, finding the Kindness Wizard baking in an untidy kitchen. In contrast to Mila's playful and unscrupulous manner, Rin is more serious and professional about her duties as part of the Wizard Council. She explains to Mila about humans bearing two SOUL Traits, who are fairly rare and often have a high status of recognition. After reporting of the presence of a Dual-Traited human, referring to Sae Ereny, in Amikeko who is unknown to anyone, Mila suggests that she simply intends to live a peaceful life without fame.

However, Rin remains suspicious of Sae and considers the possibility of her being part of the Grey Phantoms, a thought that infuriates Mila. The Kindness Wizard is then requested to interrogate her just in case, which Mila finds unethical, but she then decides to try and befriend Sae. Meanwhile, Sae wakes up in her house, finding normal life between missions for the Grey Phantoms somewhat dull. Her anxiety unearths itself when Mila comes to visit her, but the two of them are nervous and awkward.

As they speak to each other, their chemistry becomes lighthearted and cheery, and Mila offers to have tea with Sae, claiming she is curious about her Dual-Trait. Just then, Seyv Dypal, who had slept over, decides to join the two as they travel to the cottage of Mila's father, Kauzku Triuzar, one of the nicest and most respected people in Amikeko. Mila feels rather guilty and unfit to interrogate Sae, as the Dual-Traited girl is kind and adorable, too innocent to be associated with a terrorist organization.

The Kindness Wizard and the two undercover Grey Phantoms lounge at Kauzku's beautiful garden. When asked about her residence, Sae explains she was raised by Traitless parents in a village in the forest, and caring over them was slightly struggling, making Mila sympathize with this. The short girl confesses that she left her home to become a brave person, voicing out that being brave does not necessarily mean being unafraid, but rather doing what is right even when they are scared, impressing Mila. Sae concludes that in order to achieve this, she began exploring the world, an act she fears.

Feeling great love and admiration for Sae, Mila admits some jealousy since she herself is not allowed to travel to such places or try any activity that is new or terrifying, having limited places in Amikeko to venture through. Moreover, whenever she was not performing duties for the Wizard Council, such as combat, Mila would only remain in the limited space in her castle, feeling empty until she is called upon again. Sae is utterly shocked by Mila's limited freedom while Mila recalls a battle during the Grey Phantoms's Political Ultimatum, where she was heavily scarred trying to protect innocent people from Fergal Baladeva.

Sae becomes horrified and tearful at the prospect that Mila does not have regular hobbies, so she chooses to drag the Wizard to feed some ducks like a rebellious teenager motivating someone with a boring life. Although Mila is hesitant to be disobedient, Sae, giggling, brings her along anyways. Mila awkwardly accepts this opportunity and is taught how to feed ducks bread at a pond in a village by the cheerful girl. A great sense of delight fills Mila's heart as she continues to enjoy an activity with her new friend. From here onwards, Mila is fuelled with more motivation whenever she could be in battle, a strive to protect innocent and kind people like Sae, going so far as to sacrificing her life for her Dual-Traited friend.
