- "It was logical to give you both this mission. We'll be attending this event with false names. I trust Milo without question. I trust Sae and her ability to get us out safely, should anything go wrong. Seyv will stay somewhere nearby and act as backup if things should become very messy."

Masquerade Party is a prequel story that introduces the world that will be explored in Meropos. It was written by Devour.[1]
Synopsis[]
An introductory story to the world and characters of The Prequel.
Plot[]
In the Grey Phantoms Headquarters, Jessee Krovor and his team of Grey Phantoms, consisting of Seyv Dypal, Sae Ereny, Milo Ralobella and Gall Gassasu, discuss their plan to infiltrate a masquerade party hosted by Baron Torge. Gall intends to perform assassinations there, but Jessee turns him down. Sae and Milo have been under the guise of royalty to be invited while Jessee will be their guest. Jessee explains that Torge is celebrating being gifted the Rudalite Heart from King Ozrich Maekrik, which, in the baron's view, is a new era of peace. Torge will have the Heart on display at the ball, so the Grey Phantoms plan to steal it to cause a dispute between Torge and the king.
After the sunset, the party at Torge's Estate blooms, allowing Jessee, Sae and Milo to enter. While waiting for an opportunity to steal the Heart, the three begin celebrating, with Jessee coming across Mila Rutrow and Kody Fallenfire of the Wizard Council and Sae encouraging a Traitless Servant. When Jessee begins conversing about how humans who lack SOUL Traits should be treated as equals, Mila and Kody responds how if they were to prevent certain Traited humans from utilizing their magic to be in equivalence with the Traitless, then the world will grow even slower and the economy would collapse.
Jessee suggests that they invent non-magical tools for the Traitless, but Kody says that if they enforce people to perform this law, then it would take money and effort, so that be a form of tyranny. Hearing this, Jessee begins developing a more cynical view on Meropos. Suddenly, a commotion occurs where a Rude Nobleman berates and abuses the Traitless servant for accidentally ruining his suit, so Jessee steps in to defend the servant, now believing that politicians, despite their good intentions for the Traitless, are unwilling to protect them for the sake of their kingdom's current peace.
Taking advantage of this distraction, Sae and Milo, while disguised, prepare to claim the Heart. After Milo defeats the guards with great skills, they take the Heart, and since Rudalite nullifies magic, Sae cannot teleport, so they sneak out. Making it back to headquarters, Jessee destroys the Heart, much to Sae and Milo's surprise. He declared that the Heart was a symbol of peace for only the Traited, furious with the system of the world, and he announces how the Grey Phantoms will change the world for the Traitless's sake, using violence only when necessary.
