"I don't know where I failed to raise you. You could be more. So much more. Until you learn to confront the monster inside yourself, my son, you will never be a warrior."
"Father..."
"I won't ask you to visit me again. If you want to become something more, you will call for me."
Roman and W. D. Gaster

Gaster is the fourth in a series of Glitchtale Origins shorts, released on June 2, 2022. It takes place after the events of Kody Fallenfire and Kanashi Fukitsu, and before the events of The Black Beast.

The short episode was directed by Camila Cuevas.

Plot[]

As a child, an emotional W. D. Gaster summons a giant Gaster Blaster, scaring his classmates and teacher. However, he does not know how to expel it. In his adulthood, where he is already a member of the Wizard Council, his friend Kody Fallenfire informs him about a letter sent to him. Gaster claims it from Shane Goldburn, and learns that it was from his father Roman, who requests for a visit, making him nervous.

Gaster rides a carriage back to Kurago, where Roman's Cottage is. Meeting his father, they discuss their current circumstances. Since Gaster is the strongest member of the Wizard Council, Roman decides to have a training session in the field outside. Roman will cast spells to hit the tree behind Gaster, while the latter has to defend it using his own magic without moving his feet. Gaster makes a few mistakes at first, and then Roman transitions from encouraging to stern.

The son argues that he refuses to become ruthless and cold, since those are Roman's intentions for Gaster to be able to protect his friends. Roman starts insisting about his harsh view of the world, relentlessly hurting Gaster physically and emotionally. Out of rage over the idea that his cruel father did not love him, Gaster has had enough and utilizes Polychromatism. Roman is amazed, telling Gaster to kill him with his fighting spirit to become the fierce monster he dreamed Gaster to be. Gaster dismisses his demand, wishing that Roman could express his love for him back. Roman grows disappointed in him, since he has a lot of potential. He offers Gaster an opportunity to contact him if he is willing to become greater than he is now.
