The Assassination of Amber and Copper Lightvale was a successful attempt by Agate Lightvale to defeat her brother Copper Lightvale in a rematch following the Duel at the Determino Battle Arena. With her mental state completely demented, the crazed Agate murdered her sister Amber Lightvale as a means for Copper to lose his Determination, making him vulnerable to Agate's fatal attack.

Ten years following the War of Humans and Monsters, Copper and Agate Lightvale, the twin rulers of humans, had an argument over whether or not the Barrier should be destroyed, since Copper believed monsters could coexist alongside humankind. They then engaged in a public duel and the victor could decide what to do. Copper successfully subdued his sister, but Agate lost her Bravery and magic from utter humiliation.
Agate fled Determino on a conquest to find a SOUL Trait stronger than Determination.[1][2] Eventually, she encountered HATE and became its host, utilizing the dark substance to invert her former Bravery into the dark orange Fear, a Trait that could overpower Determination.[citation needed] On the night Agate was returning to the Lightvale Residence, Amber Lightvale cried softly in her room, missing her older sister. Suddenly, a person entered the surprised Princess's room to inform her of Agate's return. Amber observed in the main hall where Copper and Agate seemingly reunite and embrace each other. Agate, however, secretly did not reciprocate her brother's love and care for her.[2]

The night after Agate Lightvale's return to the Lightvale Residence, a storm formulated in the sky. In their home, Agate attempted to challenge Copper Lightvale for a rematch, and when he refused, she knocked him to the ground and pointed her Spear of Fear towards him, demanding Copper to fight her. Copper still wished not to fight and felt sentimental, angering Agate. Suddenly, Agate deduced a method to demotivate Copper and eradicate his Determination, which was to murder Amber Lightvale.
At the moment Agate laughed psychotically, Copper expressed horror upon realizing her plan. The wickedly smiling Wizard of Fear turned around to face the terrified Amber, but Copper summoned his Sword of Determination to try and strike his twin sister. However, Agate's reflexes allowed her to attempt to attack Copper with her spear, and the latter blocked it with a Shield of Determination. Amber was saddened to see her siblings battle each other,[2] and she questioned to herself if she was just having a bad dream.[3]
Still locked in combat, Copper exclaimed to the horror-struck Amber to run, and so she tried to dash towards a different room. Agate noticed this and threw a fireball at the door, causing it to explode and send wooden beams crashing on a part of Amber's skirt. Amber pulled herself back and her skirt was torn. Amber tried to recollect herself while sitting and leaning backwards when she looked up to see the completely insane Agate raise her spear, aiming at the petrified Princess. Copper could do nothing but yell out to Agate not to do it.[2] At her last moments, Amber realized that she was not having a nightmare.[3]
Amber was brutally impaled by Agate, making her scream in agony until she passed away to her fatal wound. Copper froze up in a mix of complete shock and grief, resulting in him to lose his Determination, thus having his SOUL and eyes turn grey. Copper shedded tears as he watched Agate approaching him, but he could not bother to move. The crazed Wizard struck her spear through Copper's chest, and he gave little to no reaction. Agate sadistically adored and chuckled at her brother before holding his chin to make him face her. The satisfied Agate declared her own victory and Copper's SOUL broke.[2]
