- "It's true that not everything can be solved with kindness. In fact... there is a lot of cruelty in the surface. Things don't always go our way. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. There's sadness, grief, fear, death... And yet... There're these small... tiny, little moments in our lives, that are worth living and fighting for. I want to feel happiness. I want to feel love. Even you agreed... that there was no point in living in a world without love."
- ―Asriel Dreemurr to Flowey[src]
Prince Asriel Dreemurr is the biological son of Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel, as well as the Prince of monsters. As a child, he befriended Chara, who was the first human to have fallen into the Underground and adopted by Asriel's parents, officially becoming brothers who had a strong friendship. Chara, intending to free monsters from the Underground, ate buttercups and passed away, allowing Asriel to absorb Chara's human SOUL as part of their plan. Asriel traveled across the Barrier and to Chara's home village, where he was assailed by the humans for supposedly killing Chara, leading Asriel to die from his wounds on the flower garden in New Home. After a Golden Flower with Asriel's essence was injected with Determination, Asriel returned to life as Flowey.
Flowey was SOULless, therefore he was unable to care for others. With the ability to SAVE, he experimented with different actions in the timeline after every Reset, developing a sadistic behavior whenever he harmed others. Eventually, Flowey could not SAVE anymore when Frisk, a human filled with determination, fell into the Underground. He mistook Frisk for Chara and went on to be his greatest foe in the child's journey. Temporarily, Flowey transformed into Omega Flowey when he obtained the six human SOULs, but they betrayed and defeated him. After absorbing almost every SOUL in the Underground, Flowey was transformed into Asriel the God of Hyperdeath. During his intense battle with Frisk, he was saved by being reminded of his memories with Chara. To redeem himself, Asriel broke the Barrier to free all monsters, but he opted to stay behind.
Everytime Frisk reseted, Flowey had knowledge over it and retained memories from previous timelines. In Frisk's attempt to perform the Genocide Route, Sans gained Frisk's SOUL and reseted at a moment he was not suppose to, creating glitches across space time, such as Flowey remembering that Frisk was not Chara. After learning of Chara's return, he teamed up with Sans to rescue Frisk and W. D. Gaster to clash with Chara, but when they lost, Flowey was granted the SOULs of Frisk and the six fallen humans to become Asriel again. He managed to free Chara from HATE's control in their battle by expressing his heartfelt feelings and unearthing their childhood memories together, and before Chara passed away, he used his own SOUL and the SOUL Traits of the six humans to create a rainbow SOUL for Asriel, allowing him to maintain his monster form. In the aftermath, Asriel broke the Barrier and remained with his friends and family in Meropos.
After Asriel made amends with Sans, they both investigated the actions of the Anti-Monsters Department, which led to the discovery of Bête Noire, a creature forged to prevent peace between humans and monsters. Grieving over Sans's death, he, Frisk, W. D. Gaster and their friends began engaging in a war against Bête and her Kumulings. Asriel then learned Frisk's secret of how he had been pushing the timeline to its limits during his moral experiments and that he regretted destroying the Reset button, causing all of these scenarios. When he was deeply insulted by Frisk, Asriel soon had a mental conversation with Flowey, winning the argument of how his love could aid him to win this nigh-unbeatable battle.
Sadly, he was assassinated by Akumu after trying to protect Frisk, but he was restored to life using HATE, becoming Bête's ally. Blinded by HATE, Asriel angrily attempted to eliminate his family, but at the same time, he believed being killed was the only way to protect them. Fortunately, Chara, who had swapped places with the erased Frisk, lured HATE from Asriel's SOUL into his own, taming it. The brothers happily reunited, and together, they confronted an Inverted SOUL Traits empowered HATE. To gain the upperhand, Asriel transformed into a more powerful God of Hyperdeath to help Chara destroy HATE, saving the world. As years passed, Asriel continued living in peace with his brother as they venture through a bright future.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Childhood with Chara[]
Asriel smiles at Chara
Asriel Dreemurr was born to Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel, who were the rulers of monsters in the Underground. Being crowned prince, Asriel was a kind-hearted and innocent child. One day, he found the human named Chara, who fell into the Underground near an entrance to Asriel's home. Asriel extended his hand towards Chara and smiled, and Chara gently smiled back before extending his hand. He brought Chara to his Home, where the fallen human was nursed and cared for. Eventually, Asriel and Chara grew an extremely strong friendship, being the greatest of friends, motivating Asgore and Toriel to adopt Chara as Asriel's adoptive brother.[3]
One day, Chara and Asriel ventured through Waterfall and heard music, so they went off to find the source of it. There, they found the ancient statue with an umbrella and water dripping on it, and they held hands while looking at it.[4] One day, Asriel and Chara made golden Heart Lockets for each other as a symbol of their friendship and brotherhood. Asriel also drew a blue sword with a portion of the Delta Rune called the Chaos Saber, which Chara praised by giving a thumbs up. During their time together, they both also ate chocolate together, Chara showed him his drawing of Golden Flowers, Chara played with a sock puppet on a stick, and they ate Toriel's Butterscotch Pie. Asriel was also sensitive and tended to cry a lot, making Chara refer to him as a crybaby.[3]
When Asriel was in his early adolescent years and Chara was fourteen years of age, Chara desired to free monsters from the Underground, so he plotted to consume buttercups to die of an illness, allowing Asriel to absorb his human SOUL in order to cross the Barrier, claim six other human SOULs and use the eight SOULs, including Asriel's, to destroy the Barrier, freeing everyone. Even though Asriel was against this and reluctant, he agreed with the plan.
Once Chara became terminally ill from eating buttercups, he passed away, devastating Asriel and his family. Asriel then absorbed Chara's SOUL, allowing Chara to control Asriel's transformed body. Chara carried his own corpse across the Barrier and to his home village, where the human villagers assumed that Asriel killed Chara. As they were being attacked, Chara attempted to use his full power to destroy the villagers, but Asriel resisted, taking over his body and deciding to show them mercy. Asriel ventured back to the Underground with Chara's body in his hands, being struck by the humans without defending himself. Upon returning to New Home, Asriel collapsed on the flower bed, turning into dust.[5]
SOULless Flower[]
- "Stop pretending you forgot what we did... All the lives we took. All the enemies we made."
- ―Flowey to Asriel Dreemurr[src]
Decades following his death, the Underground royal scientist W. D. Gaster injected Determination into one of the Golden Flowers in Asgore Dreemurr's Home,[6] which was the first one to bloom. The flower, filled with the will to live, had absorbed the essence and ashes of Asriel, and as a result, Asriel returned to life in the form of a flower. Due to the fact that he lacked a SOUL, Asriel was void of emotions such as love, compassion and joy.
Asriel learns Asgore Dreemurr had killed humans
Believing there was no point living in a world without love, Asriel committed suicide, but through his determination, Asriel had a strong desire to live and continue, so he used his newfound ability to SAVE to return to his first SAVE Point, which resurrected him again and reversed the timeline back to when Asriel was first reincarnated.[1] Eventually, he found his father Asgore Dreemurr standing in the Barrier's location with six human SOULs contained in glass cylinders, realizing in concern that Asgore had already murdered six humans in his revenge for Asriel's death.[2]
Flowey goes on a killing spree
Taking the alias Flowey, he began using SAVE to experiment with his decisions in the timeline. Everytime he died, he could always return to life using SAVE, and with the power to reset the timeline, Flowey made different options and choices in his actions and interactions with monsters around him after each Reset. Initially Flowey had made friends with the monsters, though he only found it amusing, but after one Reset, Flowey's was curious to see the outcome of him killing everyone around him, including his own mother Toriel.
Flowey becomes enemies with Sans
Since he could not feel love, Flowey developed a sadistic and murderous personality, taking pleasure in tormenting and harming people.[1] In one Route, Flowey confronted Asgore at the Barrier and battled against him, smiling sinisterly as he summoned spiked vines while Asgore blasted orbs of fire at him.[2] Eventually, he made various enemies, with one of his greatest adversaries being Sans.[1] Flowey had murdered everyone of Sans's loved ones, including his brother Papyrus, multiple times in different Resets. In their duel against each other, Sans had mercilessly killed Flowey out of fury, though the flower kept returning by loading his SAVE. However, Flowey was continuously overpowered and brutally obliterated by the skeleton every time, and one time, he had his petals plucked out of his body.[7]
Frisk's Journey[]
Enemies with Frisk[]
After Frisk fell into the Underground, Flowey lost the ability to SAVE due to Frisk having a greater amount of Determination. At the entrance of the Ruins, Flowey tricked Frisk and attempted to steal his SOUL by killing him, announcing his philosophy "it's kill or be killed", but his efforts were thwarted by Toriel. Overtime, Flowey came to an assumption that Frisk was actually a resurrected Chara. He continued to follow Frisk from a distance throughout his adventure. Flowey learned from his observation that Frisk was a pacifist, sparing and befriending the enemies he faced, which Flowey disliked as he believed it was "kill or be killed".[5]
Omega Flowey kills Frisk repeatedly
By the time Frisk fought Asgore Dreemurr at the Barrier, the king destroyed MERCY button, forcing Frisk to FIGHT. Once Asgore was weakened and spared, Flowey murdered his father, stole the SOULs of the six fallen humans and transformed into a grotesque, flower-shaped hybrid of plant tissue, human organs, and machinery known as Omega Flowey. Regaining control over the timeline, Omega Flowey created a dimension called My World, where he repeatedly battled and killed Frisk, who was able to return by loading his SAVE file. Eventually, the SOULs turned against Omega Flowey, draining his powers and destroying his form, reducing him back to a Golden Flower.[1]
As Flowey was injured, Frisk had the option to either kill or spare him, and everytime Frisk pressed MERCY, Flowey tried to persuade the child to kill him, threatening that he would kill him and everyone he loved. Confused as to why Frisk was being nice to him, Flowey ran away. After Frisk left the Underground, Flowey visited him and offered advice as to how he could complete the True Pacifist Route.[8]
Return to Monster Form[]
When Frisk befriended all the Monsters he was closest to, Flowey manipulated Papyrus to assemble Frisk's friends, including Sans, Toriel, Alphys and Undyne at Asgore Dreemurr's place at the Barrier. While they all united together, Flowey absorbed the six human SOULs and attacked the crew, later absorbing every monster SOUL in the Underground to transform into his normal, monster self. Asriel converted into an adult-like appearance known as the God of Hyperdeath and choosing to fight Frisk, still mistaking him for Chara, indefinitely by reseting the timeline, fearing of not being together with his best friend.
The most powerful being in the Underground, Asriel battled against Frisk, and everytime the human died, his SOUL fused back together and persisted on in the fight.[9] In the middle of it, he unlocked a more powerful form consisting of wings.[8] Eventually, Frisk and the ghostly Chara, whose presence was unknown to Asriel, called out to him to save him by reminding Asriel of his childhood memories with Chara. The God of Hyperdeath became emotional, and he blasted an unavoidable rainbow beam at them that blew away the other Encounter options except SAVE.[2] Asriel released tears and reverted back to his child form.
Asriel is hugged by Frisk
He finally accepted that Frisk was not actually Chara and acknowledged his terrible deeds, starting to apologize profusely. In means of redemption, Asriel utilized the power of all the SOULs embodied in him to break the Barrier and restored every monster to normal.[9] Asriel was then forgiven by Frisk, who hugged the tearful and remorseful prince.[2] He knew that without SOULs inside him, he would transform back into Flowey, so he bid farewell to Frisk and remained in the Underground while the others left in peace.[9]
Frisk's Moral Experiments[]
Whenever Frisk reseted the timeline, Asriel relived the True Pacifist Route countless times. Eventually, Frisk got bored of his repeats and began experimenting with his decisions and Routes after every Reset, similar to Flowey's previous actions before Frisk fell into the Underground.[3] Flowey was the only being in the universe who retained knowledge of previous timelines after Frisk reseted, and he had been an adversary to Frisk throughout his journeys.[1][9] Overtime, Frisk's experiments lasted for approximately thirty years, but nobody had aged due to the timeline being reseted to the moment Frisk arrived in the Underground constantly.[10]
Frisk began enacting on the Genocide Route, slaying inhabitants of the Ruins[3] as Flowey watched in amusement.[5] After Frisk murdered Toriel, Flowey spoke to him and believed him to be possessed by Chara's spirit. Flowey began aiding "Chara" in his genocide by suppressing all the puzzles and aspects that would slow "Chara" down. By the time Frisk and Chara arrived at New Home, Flowey spoke to his ghostly brother about their childhood and how excited he was to complete their plan of freeing monsters.
Flowey is frightened by Chara
Suddenly, Flowey realized that Chara was willing to kill him if he got in his way,[9] as Frisk momentarily transformed into Chara holding the Real Knife, terrifying Flowey.[5] Out of fear, he decided to leave and warn Asgore Dreemurr.[9] Unbeknownst to Flowey afterwards, Sans claimed Frisk's SOUL and reseted the timeline in a moment he was not suppose to, creating glitches and errors across space and time. The glitches did not affect Flowey's Stats, but they did allow him to feel slightly more sympathy.[11]
Chara's Erasure Plot[]
Rescuing Frisk[]
Flowey gets impatient waiting for Frisk
Two Resets after Frisk's attempt on the Genocide Route, Flowey continued to stalk Frisk throughout his journey. Eventually, when the child spent some a lot of time in the True Lab, Flowey got impatient of waiting. He unearthed himself in a hallway and peeked through the doorway, witnessing a glitched Chara kidnap Frisk by entrapping him inside the DT Extraction Machine with the intention of stealing his Determination.
Flowey approaches Sans to warn him
Flowey was shocked and remembered how he was frightened by Chara the last time they met, so he, with an irritated expression, dug into the ground to travel to Snowdin Forest. There, he yelled at the napping Sans, referring to him as "smiley trashbag".[5] Due to the glitches, Sans retained memories of previous Resets, including the time when he was foes with Flowey.[3] He warned the skeleton that Chara had abducted Frisk, and when Sans asked why he was telling him this, Flowey answered that he still hated him but nobody would survive if Chara had control over the timeline.
Flowey is saved by Sans's Gaster Blaster
Sans teleported himself and Flowey to Chara's location in the True Lab, prepared for battle. The Extraction Machine was enclosed by a dark substance and Chara called out Flowey to be a traitor for aborting their plan from ages ago, much to his disgruntlement. Flowey buried himself to dodge Chara's Determination slash from his Real Knife before reappearing lunging vines at his brother. More Determination slashes destroyed the vines and when they aimed at Flowey, he was rescued when Sans summoned the upper jaw of the Gaster Blaster to shield the flower.
Flowey fights against Chara
Chara teleported midair to backstab Sans, but Flowey grabbed him with a vine and pummelled him onto the ground, though Chara was unharmed. He then dodged Chara's slashes and tried firing his "friendliness pellets" at him, but Chara knifed them. Standing at a distance from each other, Chara fired vivid red slashes while Sans and Flowey prepared their bones and bullets respectively. The bullets had no effect, but Sans's bone slit Chara's cheek, making the two feel confident with Flowey clenching his vines like fists.
Flowey is scolded by Chara
Chara enacted an attack known as his Special Hell by stabbing his red Real Knife into the ground, causing the whole floor to glow red, disturbing Flowey. Sans teleported himself and Flowey onto a Gaster Blaster, summoned more Blasters and fired onto the ground, blocking them from the rising wave of red light. They were then teleported back onto ground level, with Sans exhausted. Flowey, being referred to as Asriel, was then chided by Chara for showing the attacking humans mercy, deeming that as a betrayal and him to be the reason for their current states.
Flowey tries to pull Chara away
Flowey's brother guaranteed that he will not show mercy, reminding of his philosophy that it was "kill or be killed". As soon as the dark substance vaporized to reveal a red, light orb of Determination extracted from Frisk, catching everyone's attention. When Chara tried to grab the orb, Flowey extended his vine to entangle it around Chara's left arm, pulling him back desperately. He commanded Sans to obtain the orb, but Chara severed his own arm to successfully reach for the Determination.
Flowey realizes he and Sans failed
Flowey and Sans were horrified about the fact they had failed, so the latter quickly carried the unconscious Frisk, whose SOUL was empty, and teleported away with Flowey. They arrived at Papyrus and Sans's House and as soon as they entered Sans's Workshop, a panicked Flowey asked what to do now, and Sans reassured that Frisk was still alive before stating that they needed to seek help against Chara.[5]
Meeting W. D. Gaster[]
- "Your jokes are disgusting..."
- ―Flowey to Sans and W. D. Gaster[src]
While Flowey assisted Sans in repairing his machine, they noticed Frisk woke up. When Sans requested Flowey to pass him the wrench, the embittered Golden Flower questioned if he looked like his "stupid assistant". Sans said please, so Flowey rolled his eyes and did so. He tried to throw the wrench at the back of Sans's head, but the skeleton caught it. He took a glance at Frisk's empty SOUL and heard Sans saying aloud his hope that the machine would work this time.
Flowey insults Sans's and W. D. Gaster's jokes
Flowey inquired how many times he had tried using it, and Sans confirmed to have done a few hundred tries. The machine was activated and began glowing a white light, and following Sans's warning to close their eyes before the light flashed throughout the room. The machine summoned W. D. Gaster, who exchanged puns with Sans, prompting an annoyed Flowey to call their jokes disgusting.
Knowing where the human SOULs were, Gaster teleported the four of them to the Barrier, where the six SOULs were kept in their containers. Sans hovered the SOULs towards Flowey, surprising him. He questioned Sans if he trusted him to become Omega Flowey, and the comedian admitted he kind of did and that Flowey would be more useful with the SOULs anyway. Before absorbing the SOULs, Flowey grunted that he still hated him, but Sans shrugged that off.[4]
Battle at the Barrier[]
Omega Flowey prepares to attack Chara
Omega Flowey reemerged and stomped his foot on the ground when Chara arrived at the Barrier. While the heroes took their battle stances, Chara revealed he had stolen the Determination extracted from the six humans, further strengthening him. Omega Flowey moved forward and attacked,[4] though he held back his full power since his emotions were enhanced by glitches.[11] He summoned a swarm of bombs towards Chara, but the megalomaniac blocked them with a Shield of Kindness, worrying Omega Flowey.
Omega Flowey has his hand ripped off
He used his arm to effortlessly defend himself from Chara's beam of Justice, and later on, W. D. Gaster restrained Chara with Strings of Patience, giving Omega Flowey an opportunity to shoot X-shaped bullets, but Chara's Shield of Determination blocked them. A gigantic blade of Integrity formed from the Real Knife and Chara attempted to slice Omega Flowey in half from his head, but he managed to move aside. He was caught off guard when a String of Patience from Chara's Real Knife tangled his right hand and ripped it off, paining him.
Omega Flowey mistakes their victory
Just as Chara was going to strike Omega Flowey with another blade of Integrity, Sans appeared and summoned a Gaster Blaster to shield the attack, though many pieces broke apart. After Sans seemingly obliterated Chara with Gaster Blastermination, Omega Flowey glanced at him in relief, but a slash from Chara sped towards them. Sans telekinetically forced Omega Flowey downwards as the slash cut off his massive wires and struck Sans.
Omega Flowey is questioned by Chara
The worried Omega Flowey caught Sans while his unconscious body fell, and he heard Chara, whose SOUL refused, asking if he knew what the black color on his SOUL meant. The psychopath declared it to be HATE, manifesting a large orb of the dark substance, saying that he had a lot to share with him. His brother motioned the HATE orb towards Omega Flowey to pummel him, but he settled Sans on the ground and utilized the power of the six SOULs to shoot a large beam from his organic mouth, which cracked the HATE orb and blasted it away, the giant beam of energy nearly hit Chara and took him out.
Asriel politely greets Chara
Drained of his strength, he reverted back into a Golden Flower with a torn pellet. Weakened, Flowey was almost shot by a red slash, but Frisk, recovering his Determination, saved Flowey's life with a Shield of Determination. The child called for help, having his own SOUL and the other six SOULs levitate towards the surprised Flowey and infuse themselves within the flower, flashing a bright, white light. Flowey was transformed into Asriel the God of Hyperdeath, and he was present inside a giant ball of HATE alongside Chara. Asriel smiled as he greeted Chara and said he was his best friend.[4]
Learning the Truth[]
Asriel is interrupted by Chara
Asriel attempted to calmly speak with Chara, but the latter silenced him and questioned if he knew how this situation began. The psychopath proceeded to reveal that he did not force Frisk to commit genocide, but rather the latter chose to kill monsters out of boredom from repeating the True Pacifist Route. Frisk was not brave enough to complete the Genocide Route during the Battle at the Last Corridor, so only then Chara entered.
Asriel learns Chara's motives
While Frisk had been eliminating monsters, HATE manifested inside him due to the Underground's hatred towards Frisk. Chara concluded that the remorseful Frisk was to blame for everything and declared he would complete what Frisk started. Furthermore, the reason for all the glitches and errors were due to Sans resetting in a moment he was not suppose to. Asriel was then told that HATE ended up being infused into Chara, who sought to provide consequences for Frisk's actions.
Asriel is shocked by a revelation
He was shocked to learn that Frisk giving him his SOUL while he was alive was another glitch, and if he utilized Frisk's SOUL to destroy the Barrier, he would actually die. Chara continued that another Reset would corrupt the timeline even more, causing it to erase itself. With more Determination than he ever had before, Chara formed a red ball of light that transformed into a button saying "ERASE".
Asriel attempts to convince Chara
Chara proclaimed that the only method to prevent Frisk from continuing to control the timeline, they needed to erase it. However, Chara could not press the button, so he requested Asriel to do so. Asriel barely recalled that in the repeated True Pacifist Route ending, Frisk forgave him for his actions, so Frisk also deserved a second chance. Chara scorned at that and offered the option to either "ERASE" or continue.[3]
Battle of New Home[]
Asriel reluctantly begins fighting Chara
Refusing to follow Chara's offer, Asriel asserted that "ERASE" was never an option and used Shocker Breaker to strike lightning at the button, destroying it. He forgave the satisfied Frisk and Chara accepted this as a challenge. Asriel then solemnly held his Heart Locket through his robes before he, with shadows over his eyes, used Shocker Breaker again to send four bolts leading towards Chara, who dodged the last one.
Asriel destroys bullets of Justice
Chara, armed with his Real Knife, harnessed Chromatic Magic to shoot a slash of Perseverance, a slash of Determination and three bullets of Justice. Asriel summoned Star Blazing as a shield for the first slash, threw fire at the second, and sliced the bullets with Chaos Sabers. Chara created two red slashes before teleporting behind Asriel, but he blocked the knife attack with his Chaos Sabers. He was then hit by the slashes but unharmed and shot downwards by a beam of Justice from the Real Knife.
Asriel battles Chara on a Star Blazing platform
Asriel manifested a star platform to land on, though he had crashed roughly on it, he managed to stand up. Chara appeared hovering above him, and Asriel spun his Chaos Sabers to cut the Justice bullets before having a swords-on-knife duel with Chara. Asriel's strike was blocked by a Shield of Kindness, and when Chara's massive blade of Integrity was pushing against Asriel's swords, the clash and the platform were broken by a bolt of Shocker Breaker in between them.
Asriel is reminded of his previous sins
The God of Hyperdeath pleaded Chara not to do this since he did not want to fight him, but he was responded by a red slash he shielded himself from and Chara taunting him about how he also killed people as Flowey. Asriel summoned the Chaos Buster to shoot at Chara, who had HATE further enwrapping his body and formed a Shield of Kindness. Chara confused Asriel by teleporting to different places for a moment, struck him with two slashes of Perseverance and tossed him to a far distance with the Strings of Patience.
Asriel uses Shocker Breaker on a wave of Determination
Asriel stood up quickly and watched Chara manifest a gigantic blob-like ball of HATE to attack him, and Asriel summoned the Hyper Goner to gust it away. He witnessed the sinister Chara with his glowing red Real Knife teleport behind him and absorb translucent HATE into the Knife, welcoming Asriel to his "special hell". Chara then sent an enormous wave of Determination which Asriel vaporized with Shocker Breaker.
Asriel freezes with his Heart Locket showing
Both brothers paused, and Asriel's Heart Locket unveiling itself from his robes, and the light from Chara's chest revealed itself through his striped shirt's neck to be his own Heart Locket. Asriel apologized to Frisk that he cannot bring himself to fight Chara, knowing he can convince him. He could also feel Chara's caring personality within his HATE, since if Chara truly had been fully corrupted, he would have disposed the Heart Locket.
Asriel is helped by the Fifth Fallen Human
Chara denied caring about the Locket before destroying it with the Real Knife, but he immediately shedded tears, surprising Asriel. Coming up with a plan to save Chara, Asriel and Frisk began trying to remove the HATE consuming his Determination from him, but they needed help. Asriel used his arms to defend himself from a Determination slash, however, due to Frisk calling for help, the spirit of the Kindness Fallen Human shielded him. The spirit transformed into a green ball of energy that flew into Asriel's hand, filling him with Kindness.
Asriel casts Perseverance at Chara
Asriel sensed his brother behind him, so he moved aside from his attack and launched the Kindness energy at Chara's chest. The Perseverance Fallen Human's spirit appeared next and granted Asriel Perseverance energy, which he casted on the conflicted Chara. Asriel's brother desperately refused their aid, sending another Determination slash, but Asriel allowed the Justice Fallen Human to shoot it off before filling him with Justice.
Asriel is filled with Determination
He threw the yellow energy at Chara at the moment the latter teleported in front of him, and when he stood back, Asriel was gifted with Integrity, Bravery and Patience from Alina Grey Rutrow, the Bravery Fallen Human and the Patience Fallen Human respectively. He repeated his actions with the SOUL Traits energy, and at last, he received Determination from Frisk's SOUL and blasted it at Chara, slowly wiping HATE away from him.
Asriel declares his brotherly love for Chara
Asriel transformed into his early teenage self in a white light that enveloped him, begging to see his brother as he formerly was. Chara claimed to be evil and desired to erase the timeline, but Asriel reminded him of how he liked chocolate, drawing, playing with toys, Butterscotch Pie and that he had desired to free monsters from the Underground because he cared for everyone. Chara still tried to deny this, but Asriel affirmed that he knew this because he cared about Chara more than anyone else.
Asriel walked towards Chara, who tried to stab him with a HATE-fuelled Real Knife, but was halted when the tearful Asriel hugged him. Once he asked if they were best friends, this finally snapped Chara out of HATE's control, causing it to fade from his body and allow him to hug Asriel back. Asriel forgave Chara and assured he would never leave him again, that they would be together forever. Due to his lost Determination, Chara slowly cracked away from his presence while Asriel declared he did not care about breaking the Barrier but rather be with him.
Asriel witnesses Chara disappear
Chara sadly revealed that without his Determination, he could not remain in their home dimension, teleporting a few feet away before preparing a gift. The prince pleaded for him to not disappear as he took out his empty SOUL. Crying out, Asriel begged to be taken with him, and when Chara teased him to be a crybaby one last time, Asriel embraced Chara the moment he shattered into light. However, Chara's empty SOUL was remaining to be used as a vessel that absorbed the seven SOUL Traits from Asriel.
Asriel prepares to destroy the Barrier
After a bright, white light flashed from the SOUL, the saddened Asriel found it to be rainbow colored, constantly switching between the Trait colors. He thanked Frisk for his aid and returned his SOUL of Determination to him, since Asriel no longer needed it to break the Barrier, enabling Frisk to return to his physical body and regain control over the timeline. With his new rainbow SOUL and the six SOULs, a will-powered Asriel utilized them to destroy the Barrier once more.[3]
Moving to the Surface[]
Peaceful Month[]
Asriel reunites with Toriel and Asgore Dreemurr
The blinding light faded away, and Asriel held hands with Frisk upon revealing themselves to Asgore Dreemurr. Toriel, Undyne, Alphys, W. D. Gaster, Sans and Papyrus at the location of the destroyed Barrier. Asriel waved and smiled at his shocked parents, who then caressed him with tears flowing from them and Asriel himself.[3] His parents had so many questions, but Asriel requested for them not to ask, since he did not feel comfortable about explaining.[1] The reunited Monster Royal Family, Frisk and their friends stepped out the exit of the Underground to view the sunset across a green forest, with Determino City on the far right side and a mountain on the left. Asriel head was being petted by Toriel.[3]
Asriel eats Butterscotch Pie with Frisk
Throughout monsters's first month in Meropos, they have been living in harmony with humans, allowing them to progress together. Asriel, his family and many of his friends relocated in Determino, where he, Frisk resided in Toriel's house.[12] One day, Frisk told Asriel he had destroyed the Reset button and promised not to reset anymore. Thirty-three days following the Barrier's destruction[1], Asriel woke up in the morning with Frisk to eat Toriel's Butterscotch Pie for breakfast, which he enjoyed.
Asriel apologizes to Sans
Later that day, Asriel intended to make amends with Sans for his sins as Flowey, so he called him over. They awkwardly sat across from each other at a small dinner table, but Asriel felt nervous to bring up the matter. After two minutes of silence, Sans was getting annoyed, so Asriel apologized for his previous actions, confessing that it was not easy to speak about. He stated that he wanted to move forward, but Sans used those words against him by reminding how he had reseted the timeline countless times, forcing Sans to relive the past.
Asriel happily respects Sans
The Prince expressed that he was not asking for forgiveness, since his actions had no justification, not that he was searching for any. Instead, he wanted Sans to view him as Flowey, so Sans referred to this as a good start for reconciling. Sans stated he needed time to get used to the prospect of having a future, which Asriel delightfully respected. Asriel then questioningly answered Sans about wanting to do anything to redeem himself, but left the room after Sans asked him to eat Papyrus's spaghetti and said a pun on pasta.
Asriel hangs out with Sans
Later that day, Asriel and Sans went off to Determino City and explored the shopping areas. Asriel bought a burger from Grillby's, and when he was one bite away from finishing it, he noticed Grillby and Muffet staring at each other menacingly. Sans explained that they were competing over customers before joking that Asriel had been chewing on his burger for quite a "lily" bit. Asriel then asked if Sans was going to tell bad flower puns everytime they hang out, and Sans responded that he thought "thistle" cheer him up.
Asriel meets Betty for the first time
The mildly annoyed Prince told Sans to stop and noticed Frisk over at another store with his new friend Betty. They approached the two children, with Frisk introducing Betty to them, who was helping him find Jessica Grey. When being inquired by Frisk, Betty revealed that she did not fit in with the other children at Toriel's Academy For Gifted Youngsters due to being the only one with a pink SOUL, making Asriel gape in surprise.[12]
Incident at Mettaton's Report[]
Asriel is saddened by Asgore Dreemurr's arrest
On the night of the conference hosted by the Human Safety Organization, Asgore Dreemurr confessed to murdering six human children and claimed to have used seven human SOULs to destroy the Barrier so that Asriel would be void of questioning. This resulted in him being arrested, much to Asriel and Frisk's dismay, since it was actually the former and Chara who broke the Barrier.
Asriel is gifted a Golden Flower from Sans
Tension started developing between humans and monsters, and the upset Asriel rested his head on a dining table in Toriel's House, where Sans teleported a small flower pot with a green bowtie and a Golden Flower near him to brighten him up, making him smile. He then went to Papyrus's House to meet up before going to Mettaton EX's first live report, and eventually, Frisk and Betty arrived.
Asriel and Sans walk around Mettaton EX's report area
Asriel, Sans, Frisk, Betty and Papyrus traveled to an open region in Determino City where the report was taking place. While walking aside an alley with Sans, Asriel asked where to sit, prompting Sans to say that he did not "botany" chairs, slightly irritating him. The Prince and his friends observed Betty seemingly starstruck and trying to approach Mettaton, but suddenly, they noticed the crane moving. Asriel questioned why the crane was active since the construction was complete and Sans realized Papyrus was absent.
Asriel finds Papyrus inside a crane
The crane released the steel beams it was carrying onto the crowd, heavily injuring them, but Asriel, Frisk and a weakened Sans were unscathed. Asriel found Papyrus feeling dizzy inside the crane and checked to see if he was alright, but unfortunately, a police officer of the Determino City Police Department asked him to move aside so that she could arrest Papyrus for supposedly causing this incident. Before he was detained, Papyrus explained that he had seen a little girl asking for help on the crane's hook, and he only followed "her" instructions to try and save "her".[13]
Asriel suggests to find AMD footage
On the night following this occurrence,[14] Asriel, Sans, Frisk and Betty stayed at Toriel's house for discussion. Asriel sat on the brown armchair when he informed the rest about Papyrus's statement and noted Sans's nullified powers. He asked the comedian how he felt, to which he responded he was slowly getting better, pleasing Asriel. He proposed the idea that Papyrus would never intentionally commit such an act, so they could access footage from the Anti-Monsters Department cameras to find something they had not seen.
When Frisk suggested that they could find a method to reset, Sans became furious, unsettling the sweating Asriel. He tried to speak to Sans, but the latter ignored him and the dispute between Sans and Frisk became deep. Asriel continued to feel uncomfortable by this scene, and just as Sans used his powers to levitate Frisk in front of him, Asriel yelled at Sans to stop, which he complied. After Frisk and Sans's friendship was broken, the latter asked Asriel if he was coming along with him to the Anti-Monsters Department Headquarters, and Asriel sheepishly accepted.[13]
Losing Sans[]
- "He was my friend."
- ―Asriel Dreemurr to Bête Noire[src]
Sans teleported himself and Asriel in the camera recordings storage room inside the Anti-Monsters Department Headquarters, then Asriel turned on the monitors and said he had a feeling the Anti-Monsters Department was involved in this situation. He was positive that the AMD's actions were recorded and proof of it was hidden in their computer, and while he searched through the files, he found a folder with strange recordings from different locations. One video displayed Frisk summoning a Shield of Determination in the middle of the street in front of Betty in order to "save" her.
Asriel questioned why Frisk did that, and Sans played another video from the conference day, showing Betty leaving W. D. Gaster's House even though they were told Betty slept there. With that, Sans concluded that this was all Betty's doing, telling Asriel they had to warn the others. Suddenly, the door opened behind them, and there stood Betty and Akumu, whose expressions altered from concerned to sinister.
Asriel felt intimated when Betty admitted disappointment at not revealing to be Bête Noire herself and was greatly worried when Sans was shot by Jessica Grey's Anti-Magic Ray. He tried tending to the nullified Sans before demanding Bête to stay away, but then Bête conjured a hallucination that she was Chara, making him freeze in place upon supposedly seeing his best friend. He was unable to hear Sans's commands to move, and when the hallucination was dispelled, Asriel was shocked to see a Spear of Fear heading straight towards him.
In an act of sacrifice, Sans teleported in front of Asriel and got impaled by the Spear instead, much to Asriel's horror. Bête removed the Spear along with Sans's SOUL, and the skeleton fell into Asriel's arms. Tearful, he begged Sans to maintain consciousness so that he could think of something, and as he stuttered, the disintegrating Sans told Asriel to enjoy the future for him before Akumu consumed his SOUL, turning Sans into dust.
Grief-stricken and enraged, Asriel began unleashing his powers, which caused black marks to appear on his cheeks. He declared that Sans was his friend and summoned a ball of rainbow fire in his left hand, which he shot at Bête, but it was blocked by Akumu. When he was about to fire another one, he remembered Sans saying they had to warn the others, so he instead shot the fire ball onto the ground, launching him through the wall and out the building within seconds.[13]
War Against Bête Noire[]
Meeting With Allies[]
Asriel had spent a nighttime running from the Anti-Monsters Department Headquarters to Toriel's House, still maintaining his slightly powered form. He eventually opened the door to the house, out of breath before changing back to his normal self. The worried Frisk asked what happened, and when he mentioned Sans, Asriel was on the brink of tears, making Frisk realize he had died. Heartbroken, Frisk lost some of his Determination and fell to his knees, prompting Asriel to try and aid him.
He felt deeply sorry as Frisk cried, and while glancing at the Golden Flower gifted by Sans, he said they had to tell W. D. Gaster and the others before Bête Noire could hurt someone else. They both went to W. D. Gaster's House, finding books scattered around and a broken flower pot. Alphys was present to explain that Gaster was aware of the tragedy and had been grieving Sans. Asriel asked where he was, so Alphys responded he was outside behind the house, but Asriel chose to stay inside.
A few minutes later, the house was suddenly attacked by Kumulings. Asriel stepped in front of a scared Alphys to confront the blob that was a little taller than him, charged up his slightly powered form and summon a Chaos Saber in his right hand. He spun the sword, held it with two hands to aim at the blob's middle area and sped towards it, hitting his target. While it was sticking inside the blob, Asriel activated the blade's rainbow flames to make the blob implode somewhat colorfully.
Noticing Alphys and a blob holding against each other with a DVD, Asriel threw a fire ball at the blob and vaporized it. He then asked Alphys if she was alright, which she confirmed. Frisk and Gaster entered, with the former telling Asriel they had to go to Toriel's Academy For Gifted Youngsters to fend off possible blobs. When they heard knocking on the front door, all four of them peeked through a doorway to see the entrance.
Undyne, accompanied by Papyrus, Asgore Dreemurr and Jessica Grey, burst her way inside, but upon seeing Jessica, Asriel was wide-eyed and tempered, unleashing his powers again. However, before he could attack, Gaster himself dashed forward to try and destroy Jessica with a Gaster Blaster, but the attack was blocked by Papyrus. The lanky skeleton reassured that Jessica intended to assist them now, and when the situation was slightly settled, Gaster said he would teleport Asriel and Frisk to the school, and Asgore joined them.[14]
Defending Toriel's School[]
After W. D. Gaster told Asriel, Frisk and Asgore Dreemurr that they could return to his house and wait for the rest when their mission was complete, he snapped his fingers, sending them to the extensively long pathway to Toriel's Academy For Gifted Youngsters. Asgore, despite knowing it was not the appropriate time, requested Asriel to play catch after this, and he accepted with a soft smile. Screaming from inside the building alerted their attention, so they headed forth to defend the humans.[14]
Inside the school, Asriel began bonding with his father. He watched as Asgore threw a head-sized fire ball at a massive Kumuling, creating an explosion that amazed him. When Asgore was about to shoot a more powerful fire ball in front of his impressed son, Asriel was shocked to notice his frowning mother Toriel approach Asgore. After an accidentally explosion from the fire ball, Asriel tried to happily tell Toriel they were searching for her, but his sentence was cut off by an argument between his parents.
Annoyed by the quarrel, Asriel shouted that now was not the time for arguing. He then noticed a cold-faced Frisk in a hallway with Abigail, so he delightfully greeted the former. After seeing Abigail leave, Asriel told Frisk that they should bring help to anyone left around the school. Toriel demanded to Asriel to stay behind, but he refused to listen to her and Asgore fight and rather potentially save someone.
Frisk laid his left hand on Asriel's shoulder and confirmed that nobody was left in the building, since they were too late to save certain people. Instead, he wanted to return to Gaster's house, but when Asriel suggested that more blobs could be present, Frisk interrupted that they had all retreated. Asriel still believed they could still help here, so Frisk, in an unfriendly manner, told him to stay and that he was not Asriel's "babysitter", slightly hurting him.[1]
Frisk's Confession[]
Returning to W. D. Gaster's House, Asriel, Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel sat on the green furniture in the living room. He peeped from behind his armchair to greet Frisk, who asked Toriel if he could speak with Asriel in the field behind the house. Asriel was concerned but followed Frisk anyway, opening the door to see Frisk standing far and staring into the open atmosphere that blew a small gush of wind.
Asriel questioned what was happening with Frisk, since he had not been behaving as his normal self lately. Frisk admitted he had been lying to Asriel and this whole situation was his own fault. The Prince tried to comfort him by responding that it was nobody's fault, but Frisk exclaimed he did not understand. The human confessed to have been searching for a method to reset eversince they arrived to the Surface, shocking Asriel, since Frisk promised not to reset.
Frisk openly regretted ever destroying the Reset button, noting that Sans was deeply infuriated by having his suspicions about the false promise revealed. Asriel was agape at this confession while Frisk said that Bête Noire's War would unlikely end well, and these events were not suppose to occur unless he could reset.
Asriel was also told about Frisk's Moral Experiments, where the child had experienced every Route he could, and also how he abused the timeline despite knowing it was glitched following the Battle at the Last Corridor. His goal was to discover a different ending, so after Sans's reseted, Frisk activated Hard Mode. Throughout the three decades Frisk had been resetting, Chara became furious with him. Eventually, Frisk disposed of the HATE inside him during the Genocide Route into Chara, and that led to Chara's Erasure Plot.
In the end, Frisk finally received the ending he wanted, and he thought destroying the Reset button would send him back to the Load Screen, but instead, he remained in the timeline, knowing negative occurrences would come, and unfortunately, he could not SAVE anymore. After Frisk concluded that all that led to Bête Noire's war, he asked Asriel if he understood and said that if he lost this battle, it would be game over for everyone forever, frightening Asriel.
Frisk told him that he did not have to worry, not that he could do anything about it, and he was the only person who could defeat Bête. Asriel was then informed by Frisk that he was planning to search for her, and he was not sure if he would return so he revealed all of this to ease his own burden. He apologized to Asriel for not being the friend he viewed him as, but Asriel answered that that was not true, since they could spend some more time and make another plan before Frisk could go.
Frisk still affirmed that he would fight Bête alone, however, Asriel protested that he would perish if he faced her alone and that he could barely maintain his Determination. After Asriel suggested to wait and get stronger, Frisk questioned when he started caring about him dying, since he committed similar actions as Flowey. He replied that he might have been confused, but Frisk performed his deeds under his own volition.
Asriel tried to lecture that Frisk could still feel remorse, regret and love, but he instead chose to ignore those factors and almost assassinated the entire Underground, finishing that if he were to confront Bête now, he would lose. In response to this, Frisk coldly commented that Flowey was not "such a coward", deeply offending Asriel as he wanted to move on from his sins. The horrified Prince welled up in tears while looking at Frisk's dispassionate face, then hurried back inside the house.[1]
Emotional Conflict[]
- "I have a feeling that whatever happened in the past, it's coming back to haunt you. And that's why you're so troubled."
"Yeah... but like you said, I can't talk about it." - ―Asgore Dreemurr and Asriel Dreemurr[src]
Up until nighttime, Asriel was still intensely hurt by Frisk's statement. In his bedroom, which was lit up by a single candle, Asriel teared up into a pillow he was hugging to his face. The next morning, Asriel witnessed from a doorway Toriel trying to prevent Frisk from leaving W. D. Gaster's House, resulting in Frisk scarring Toriel's palm with the Sword of Determination, saddening her. Asriel was dejected by this sight, and he was seen by Asgore Dreemurr.
Eventually, Asriel tried to play catch with his father outside as the latter requested before. He held the baseball in his hand, but he was too upset to play, apologizing to Asgore. His father then said he wanted to speak with him, beginning off with how Asriel did not want to explain his return. Asgore identified that Asriel's past deeds were coming back to haunt him, which was why he was troubled.
Asriel admitted that to be valid, but he still felt uncomfortable to converse about his past. The King lectured that even good people do bad things sometimes, considering himself as an example, telling one of his biggest mistakes to be not comforting his friend Roy Goldburn over a thousand years ago, which would have changed the course of events today. He enlightened Asriel that the best method to help his friends is being there for them, even if they chose to be alone.
Continuing on, Asgore said it did not matter how many mistakes Asriel made, but rather how many times he got back up. They could not always choose the correct decisions, but they had to be strong enough to endure the consequences of their choices. Asgore confessed to have been facing consequences everyday, hoping that Asriel could do the same. This lesson made Asriel weep and run to embrace his father tightly. He thanked his father and, out of curiosity, asked what his friend's name was, noting he never told any stories from when he was younger. After Asgore answered it, he stated that was a story for another time.[1]
Flowey's Proposal[]
In his room in W. D. Gaster's House, Asriel stared at himself in the mirror seriously, pondering about Asgore Dreemurr's advice on facing consequences. However, he became unhappy as he was unsure of how to move on, since it was not like his SAVE abuse never happened. Looking at the Golden Flower on his table, Asriel remembered Frisk's comment on Flowey not being a "coward", making Asriel clench his fists.
He pulled out a chair, sat on it, and rested his head on the table, watching the flower with a sense of sadness. While in that position, Asriel drifted off to sleep, initiating a dream where where he was still resting on the table with the flower. Asriel spoke to himself that, up until now, he was trying to adjust to his emotions again, and to his utter shock, Flowey, replacing the Golden Flower, responded to him to just stop caring about his close ones.
Flowey beamed innocently at Asriel, who straightened his posture in horror at the sight of his former persona. Flowey assured only Asriel could see him and remarked that it took a while for Asriel to ask for his help again. The kind persona argued that he did not ask anything from him, but the sinister Flowey questioned if he was certain. Flowey explained that Asriel's emotions were weakening him, an idea the kind Prince also had, and reminded of how Frisk insulted him, wearing a false sympathetic expression.
Suddenly, Flowey glitched into a more twisted and menacing form where his stem was crooked, his petals were decaying, and his eyes were red. The terrifying flower asked why Frisk was straining relationships with his loved ones, and after nearly reverting back to normal, Flowey carried on that Frisk understood a certain disposition better than Asriel did. That disposition was how one could not fight a monster without becoming one themselves.
Flowey professed that this was why Asriel needed him and why he had not left his memories. The Golden Flower proclaimed to the angered Prince that the latter knew an emotionally sensitive person like himself would never make a major change to a situation such as Bête Noire's War. When his appearance became almost normal, Flowey advised Asriel to stop pretending to be like his friends and mentioned his past sins where Flowey had psychotically murdered dozens and made foes.
The maniacal flower concluded that if Asriel abandoned his emotions, they would be unstoppable. He extended a large vine with red spikes and said they were the same after all. Asriel's face seemed expressionless, his hair over his eyes as he raised his hand. Flowey's smile grew wider at the thought he was going to accept his evil persona, so he retracted his spikes to allow Asriel to hold onto his vine.[1]
Debate with Flowey[]
- "So... you won't reject me anymore?"
"That's what I've been doing wrong this entire time. You're a part of me now, Flowey. Like it or not. Let's try to make this something we both enjoy." - ―Flowey and Asriel Dreemurr[src]
Asriel gripped onto Flowey's vine and, to the latter's surprise, pulled the Golden Flower out of the pot. He then caught Flowey by the stem and glared at him, declaring that he knew he would never forget his actions, but he refused to cast aside his emotions a second time. Even when he would become severely depressed, Asriel would always have friends to hearten him. Moreover, whenever Asriel would have the opportunity to protect them, it would be his love for them that would motivate him to go beyond his very limits. instead of power. Flowey differed that Asriel was repeating the same mistake he made that got him and Chara murdered in the first place, widening Asriel's eyes. The flower's wicked smile dropped when Asriel responded that decision ultimately led to monsters being freed from the Underground.
Feeling expressive in a philosophical manner, Asriel gently placed Flowey back inside his flower pot before voicing out his perspective on life. He admitted the truth on how not everything could be resolved with kindness, and events would not always unfold in their preference. Sometimes innocent people suffer awful things, such as sadness, grief, fear and death, yet there were small joyful memories and experiences that are worth fighting and living for.
Asriel concluded that he wanted to feel happiness and love, reminding Flowey of how he agreed that there was no point living without feeling love. Flowey absorbed those words with meaning and called Asriel an idiot for thinking like that, amusing Asriel to guess himself as one. Smiling, he unraveled that he felt as if following his emotions would lead to a good ending, but Flowey scoffed that he would love to see that.
The kind persona extended his hand to permit Flowey to watch the outcome, accepting that they would be stuck together forever anyways. Flowey hesitantly reached out his vine to shake Asriel's hand before pulling them back and sullenly took up the offer, telling Asriel to not touch him with his "crybaby hands". The Prince smiled gently as Flowey asked if he would not reject him anymore, and Asriel replied that rejecting him was his mistake this entire time, since Flowey was a part of him now, irritating the cruel persona. Asriel brought forward the proposal that they could make an outcome they would both enjoy, so Flowey sighed and agreed with a frown, delighting Asriel to tears of joy.
Flowey shouted that it did not mean he was happy about it then demanded Asriel to wake up from this dream, referring to him as an idiot. In the real world, Asriel opened his eyes to find his back wrapped with a blue blanket. After glancing at the lifeless Golden Flower and its shadow, he stood up and walked towards his drawer, where his Heart Locket was placed on with tear drops present. He picked up the Locket,[1] since he viewed it as a symbol for his confidence,[15] and left the room, unconcerned about the open window.[1]
Love (Part 2)[]

Asriel taking his heart locket
After Frisk departs to fight Bete, Asgore and Asriel meet in the backyard. During their conversation, Asgore gives the insight to Asriel that even good people sometimes do bad things. He tells his son about a friend of his named Roy, who he regrets not spending time with when he was in need, mentioning that things could have become much different. Asriel is touched by his father's wisdom and hugs him.
Later, Asriel falls asleep contemplating Frisk's insult to him. In his dream, he finds himself in front of Flowey in the golden flower pot in front of him. Flowey attempts to advise Asriel to ignore his feelings and become a "monster" like Frisk. Asriel rejects Flowey's advice, believing that he should follow his emotions. After a lengthy conversation, Asriel accepts that Flowey is a part of him before waking up from his dream, grabs his Heart Locket, and begins to follow Frisk to Bete.

Asriel is tricked and killed by Bete
During the fight, Bete manages to deplete Frisk's determination using memories of their Genocide and strikes them down. Asriel intervenes against Frisk's urges. After a short fight, Kumu kills Asriel and steals his soul asr Asriel admits being an idiot, quoting Flowey.
Watching Asriel die greatly strengthens Frisk's resolve, raising their LV to 19 and sharply increasing their Determination.
After the battle ends, Frisk is inspired by Papyrus' acts of compassion that were able to save Sans from the control of HATE. The episode ends with Frisk saying that they may be able to "use the opposite of HATE" to SAVE Asriel from Bete's control.<
My Promise[]

Bete hesitates to break Asriel's soul infected with HATE

At the start of My Promise, Bete was destroying HATE-infected souls of the soul harvest's victims. She contemplating on destroy Asriel's soul but stopped once she saw Cam's non-infected soul. After absorbing its magic, she told Kumu to use some HATE on Asriel's soul, recovering his body but putting him under her control.

Asriel joining Bete's ambush
Later, Frisk, Toriel, and Asgore attempted to fight Bete in the city. However, she introduced Asgore and Toriel to Asriel, who, according to her, was upset at his parents for treating him poorly in the past. Toriel attempts to break Asriel free from her control by showing her compassion to him, which failed and only resulted in her getting attacked by him by his shocker breaker attack.

Asriel stabbing Asgore
Bete and Frisk dueled once again, while Asriel was dealing with Toriel and Asgore. Asgore defended himself from one of Asriel's attacks by using a wall of fire to block it. But, he penetrated the fire and attacked his father. Asgore tried to tell him to stop, only to be told to shut up, he then insulted Asgore for killing six innocent humans in cold blood. Asriel then is about to impale Asgore, when good memories flashback to Asriel.

Asriel being tackled by Frisk
Asriel then stabbed Asgore in the chest, severely damaging him. Asriel then attempted to hurt Asgore again by lighting his sword on fire, but before he had the chance to activate it, Frisk rammed him with their shield. Frisk then told Asgore and Toriel that they needed to escape and think of something else. Toriel said that she didn't want to leave Asriel, only for Frisk to say that what she did was completely useless and had no effect on Asriel whatsoever. Bete then told them that she won't let them escape, and told them not to die on their way out. Bete snapped her fingers and a warning sign appears under Frisk. They told Asgore and Toriel to run while they presumably got struck by the attack. After this, Asriel wasn't seen again in the episode.
Game Over []

Asriel battling Chara
Asriel first encounters Chara in the city, they attack Chara while Chara defends and dodges the attacks. After Chara realizes that Asriel won't listen to them, they show him his heart locket. Asriel realizes that the locket was his, but gets furious at Chara when they remembered that Chara broke their locket in Continue, but due to being blinded by hate

Asriel kills Chara
Asriel stabs Chara out of anger and leaves them lying on the ground to die. When Chara tries his best to go back and stop the timeline from being deleted, Chara enters one of the past events that happened in the timeline, which is when Asriel talked to Flowey in his head. Chara then put a blanket over Asriel and left Asriel's locket on top of the cabinet nearby, knowing that another locket should still be at "Home". After Chara glitches out, Asriel wakes up from his dream and picks up the duplicate locket on top of the cabinet and leaves.
Asriel appears again nearby at the end of Part 1 and he can be seen alongside Bete, who was nearby the City Arena. Bete tells him that 'it's time' while an army of pink blobs gathers around the arena. While Asriel spawns a chaos saber and lets it rest on one of his shoulders.

Asriel didn't play a big role in this episode but will have his fight with Chara in Animosity.
Animosity[]
Asriel and Chara continue to fight outside the arena and in the city. Soon, Chara pulls out his locket and shows it to Asriel. Since Chara, from the last timeline, was able to place their old locket in front of Asriel before being erased, he had one as well. Just as it seems Asriel is about to break free, the hate spreads and makes him attack Chara even more, berating him for his past intentions that hurt Asriel in many ways. At certain points, Asriel breaks free and encourages Chara to kill him in order to destroy HATE inside of him, but he refused.

Soon, Chara finds himself inside Asriel's mind where he finds Flowey. Flowey explains that this was where Asriel left him and that Chara needs to kill both him and Asriel in order to win and destroy HATE. However, Chara refuses to hurt his family as he recalls how Asriel gave hope to him and taught him how to live. As HATE starts flying into Chara's soul, Flowey yells at him to stop, however, Chara tells him that he's not taking HATE but lets it inside him instead, thus freeing Asriel from it. Before Chara could fully be consumed, Asriel encourages Chara to not give in and brings forth his locket. Chara is then saved before the HATE could take over, as relieved brothers embrace each other. Asriel calls Chara a crybaby, but Chara tells him that this was an exception.
After a while, the pair arrive in time to save Papyrus and Gaster from a HATE that has taken full control over Bête Noire's body and powers. As Asriel checks on Papyrus, Chara begins to use HATE of his own to combat.

Personality[]
- "I know I'll never forget what I did. But I refuse to lose everything I have a second time. Even when I hit rock bottom, there will be friends standing by my side. And when I get the chance to protect them... It won't be 'power' the force that will move me forwards. It's my love for them the one thing that motivates me to go beyond my very limits."
- ―Asriel Dreemurr to Flowey[src]
Asriel Dreemurr's upbringing from his early childhood shaped him to be kind, polite, respectful, and very caring for the people he was around and who he considered his friends. Whenever he is given a chance to protect his closest allies, Asriel's love for them is the primary source of motivation that would lead him to go beyond his limits. Similar to his father Asgore Dreemurr, Asriel commonly speaks with southern slang. He had shown to be gentle and concerning for anybody, including strangers, he encountered when Asriel first met Chara, a miserable human child who fell into the Underground. His first instinct was to help Chara up and nurse him in his home. Asriel having an innocent and good heart inspired Chara to have hope in his life, and they developed an extremely strong friendship that Asriel's emotional core centered upon. His extreme love for his brother Chara led him to understand every detail of his personality, and furthermore, Asriel himself admitted he cares about Chara more than anyone else in the world, displaying how he truly cherishes their memories together.
Throughout his life, Asriel had always been emotionally sensitive, having a tendency to cry a lot whenever he feels sad or overcome with emotions, thus Chara labelled him as a crybaby. Being the kind-natured child he is, Asriel was openly reluctant and hesitant about Chara's plot to obtain human SOULs to destroy the Barrier since it involved his best friend committing suicide and the murder of six other humans. However, his compassion to Chara motivated him to enact on the plan, including the prospect that they would free monsters from the Underground. Asriel felt reasonably regretful as he followed Chara's plan, and when he was being bombarded by weapons thrown by humans, Asriel was incredibly merciful to his killers, desperately holding the raged Chara back from obliterating the attackers. His strong sense of morality caused him to abort their plan and return to New Home to pass away, not as a murderer.
Upon being reborn in the form of a Golden Flower, Asriel discovered that, due to not having a SOUL, his compassion, love and respect had disappeared, rendering him incapable of experiencing a positive emotion, not even the ability to care for people. In his empty state, Asriel believed that it was not worth living anymore now he had lost his love, so he took his own life, but the Determination injected in him gave Asriel a primal will to live, so he utilized his newfound power to SAVE to return to life. Dubbed Flowey, he became intrigued and interested in this power, using SAVING mostly for his own personal entertainment. Initially, Flowey was willing to aid and befriend the people he met in his journey through the Underground that he kept reseting, though he only found these good deeds amusing. However, when he went on a killing spree, Flowey was bathed with an extreme thrill that exacerbated into sadistic tendencies and a twisted sense of humor. Completely psychotic and merciless, Flowey murdered many innocent monsters, including his mother Toriel without any remorse. Overtime, due to his experience of being assassinated decades ago by humans he decided to spare, Flowey believed in a cynical and cruel perspective of the world that one could only kill others or end up being killed, thus forging his philosophy on how it was "kill or be killed". Additionally, he blamed his own love to be the mistake he made during his assassination.
An ideology that Flowey also developed was that a person could not defeat people of great evil without becoming callous themselves. His actions were also primarily stemming from a lust for power, as Flowey sought out to obtain the seven human SOULs to become an entity of immense power. When Frisk fell into the Underground and unknowingly stole Flowey's ability to SAVE, the Golden Flower viewed him and his actions as his own source of entertainment, enjoying playing the role of the child's most dangerous adversary. He also had a habit of referring to people as idiots. Being very manipulative and cunning, Flowey took advantage of people to achieve his goals, and once he absorbed the six human SOULs Asgore stored to become Omega Flowey, he abused his power to kill and torment Frisk endlessly out of high levels of pleasure and laughter. Fortunately, he was defeated and rendered powerless by the six SOULs, and in this overthrown state, Flowey was unafraid to die. Even when Frisk chose to give MERCY, Flowey attempted to persuade Frisk to execute him, claiming to kill his loved ones as a threat.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Boss Monster Physiology: As a Boss Monster with a goat-like physique, Asriel's body is composed of magic, making him and his species far weaker than humans, both in physical combat and regarding the strength of their SOUL. Despite this, he is capable of accessing great magical abilities. While inhabiting Determino and consuming human food, Asriel gained slightly more physical matter, being able to bleed. Due to his classification, Asriel possesses some supernatural traits additionally to the regular magic composition of a monster's body.
- Longevity: Asriel is a monster, so he only ages by draining magic from his parents Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel to "grow up". He was born with power from his parents, causing his lifespan to depend on his ageing parents.
- SOUL Persistence: Before gaining his SOUL containing all seven SOUL Traits, his Boss Monster SOUL could temporarily persist after his body would turn to dust.
- "Your SOUL is really special, Asriel."
- ―Bête Noire to Asriel Dreemurr[src]
- Human SOUL/Chromatic Empowerment: In the climax of the Battle of New Home, Asriel was gifted by Chara his nearly empty human SOUL that is composed of all seven of the SOUL Traits. This enabled him to retain his normal monster form as well as his abilities as the God of Hyperdeath. The speciality of his SOUL piqued the interest of Bête Noire, who chose not to crush it and instead resurrect Asriel using HATE. While fighting in Determino, Asriel often held back his full powers. He only chose to summon his full strength when the situation is dire.
- Superhuman Strength: As Flowey he is capable of keeping the doors of an elevator shut with his vines. In his "God of Hyperdeath" form Claimed to be able to destroy the Undertale world and would be capable of resetting it through a TRUE RESET, which resets the entirety of the world.
- Superhuman Durability: Took countless bloodlusted attacks from a large crowd of humans while refusing to fight, exposing all of his weaknesses, and still managed to make it all the way back to the underground before eventually giving in to his injuries Should be the same as his Attack Potency as he has the power of 6 human Souls and a highly determined Frisk can only slightly harm him
- Superhuman Speed: At least superior to average monsters who can fight Frisk, who can dodge sound attacks at this speed. Likely scales to stronger monsters in the Core and should be much faster than any monster living in the Underground. His "Hyper Goner" attack can erase an entire timeline, and Asriel can keep up against Frisk who was able to outrun said attack.
- Superhuman Agility: To be added
- Fire Manipulation: Inherited from his parents, Asriel can generate and control the element of fire. He is capable of summoning a type of rainbow colored fire when fighting enemies.
- Star Blazing: Asriel can manifest large, rainbow colored, star-shaped projectiles to either be used to block attacks from attackers or be expanded into a platform as a means of transport. When the Battle of Determino began, Asriel summoned a platform to levitate himself, Papyrus and an unconscious W. D. Gaster to safety. He also used a platform as a shield to defend himself and Chara against HATE's Special Hell.
- Shocker Breaker: Asriel can strike his target with bolts of lightning, which are forewarned by squares with an exclamation point. This can be used several times at once, summoned primarily to strike Asriel's targets or to block attacks. He began the Battle of New Home by striking lightning at Chara's "ERASE" option before four more bolts leading to Chara. While duelling on a Star Blazing platform, Asriel was locked in an attack from Chara's Chromatic Magic-empowered Real Knife until he split each other apart with Shocker Breaker, destroying the platform as well. During the Battle of Determino City, he was brainwashed with HATE to attempt to eliminate his adoptive brother, at two points successfully charging this attack at him.
- Weapon Summoning: The power of the SOUL Traits allow Asriel to conjure three weapons, those being Chaos Saber, Chaos Buster and Hyper Goner, with the first being his primary choice.
- SOUL Persistence: Much like human SOULs, Asriel's SOUL can persist after death. After being assassinated by Akumu in the Battle of the Determino Canyon, Bête Noire claimed his SOUL and kept it within Akumu's storage of human SOULs.
- Angel of Death: An attack that Asriel can use is shooting a barrage of energy-based comet projectiles constructed between his hands. The movement of these projectiles can be manipulated by Asriel, such as when he, while fuelled with HATE, directed them towards Chara in the Battle of Determino City.
- Transformation: After gaining his SOUL filled with all seven SOUL Traits, Asriel is able to morph from his normal Boss Monster form to either the God of Hyperdeath or an even more powerful form.
- Death Persistence: When Asriel was impaled by HATE in the Battle of Determino, his SOUL was shattered, but it refused to die and rejoined together after Asriel transformed into a being stronger than the God of Hyperdeath.
- Power Augmentation: During his final battle with HATE, he was overpowered by it. By transforming into a more powerful God of Hyperdeath, his powers and abilities were heightened, unleashing his inner strength to defeat HATE with Chara's help unscathed.
Former Powers[]
- Human SOUL Empowerment: As teenagers, Chara hatched a plan to free monsters from the Underground, which involved sacrificing himself so that Asriel could absorb his human SOUL, turning Asriel into an adult with unfathomable power. Chara possessed Asriel's body and passed through the Barrier, and when Chara attempted to unleash Asriel's full power to destroy the humans attacking them, Asriel resisted and took control. While he chose mercy for his attackers, his body was not durable enough to withstand the sword, arrows and spears thrown at him, leading to his death.[2]
- Plant Physiology: Decades after his body faded into dust which spread across the bed of Golden Flowers in New Home, the royal scientist Alphys injected Determination into one of the flowers which contained a high concentration of Asriel's dust. Gaining the will to live, Asriel was reincarnated into the Golden Flower, becoming Flowey.
- Earth Travel: Since he had no limbs, Flowey was capable of traveling from one place to another by digging himself through the ground, being able to breath under the dirt and advance across long distances within a short matter of time.
- Body Manipulation: Flowey had the ability to control certain aspects of his body, such as the vines he produced, his own height and his facial features.
- Vine Manipulation: Flowey could grow thick vines that were almost as large as appendages, serving as his limbs as well as utilities in combat, such as when he fought Chara in the Battle at the True Lab. He was strong enough to grab a hold of Chara using the vines, but they could be severed into pieces by the latter's energy slashes from his Real Knife. The vines could also protrude tiny red spikes, which Flowey used to kill Toriel. While Asriel had a dream in his mind space where he spoke to Flowey, the latter extended a spiky vine as a hand before retracting them.
- Stem Extension: The stem of Flowey's body can be elongated by himself, being able to tower over Sans while helping him complete his machine.

Trivia[]
- In Undertale, Asriel Dreemurr is the biological child of Toriel and Asgore Dreemurr and the adoptive brother of the first human. He serves as the final boss of the True Pacifist Route. As Flowey, he is the first major character that Frisk encounters. Flowey serves as the main antagonist for the Neutral and True Pacifist routes, and can be considered a deuteragonist for the Genocide Route. He provides an introduction to the mechanics of encounters by sharing "friendliness pellets," which are actually harmful bullets, revealing his philosophy of "KILL or BE KILLED".
- He's able to switch forms at will and summon his weapons of choice when needed.
- He's good at swordplay, as shown in the sword fight against Chara in "Continue".
- Asriel, hence hosting the seven Soul Traits, also has the determination soul, but is weaker than the original determination soul, yet considered powerful among monsters. It is also the reason it flickers from one color to another. [16]
- His God of Hyperdeath form might not have been enough to defeat Bete Noire.[17]
- However, it proved invaluable when fighting the HATE alongside Chara in the final battle, and saved Asriel from dying.
- Apart from a flashback to his battle with Frisk in Animosity, Asriel's "final form" never appeared in Glitchtale.
- Asriel has a lot of power, but he doesn't have enough fighting experience, he is also a pacifist, which makes him not want to fight much.
- Asriel doesn't tell anyone about his past with Chara and Flowey, and he keeps it hidden.[18]
- Asriel is around 11-14 years old.
- In an amino post,[19] Asriel and Sans were apologizing for what they did to each other in the past. Here, Sans talked about ripping of Flowey's petals and the word Glitchtale, which was is seen in the corner of the drawing. This proves that, in Glitchtale, Sans vs. Flowey is both Glitchtale-related and canon.
- After Frisk got erased from the timeline entirely, Chara and Asriel's memory of what happened in Continue changed; Chara was saved from HATE by Asriel, the six human souls created a special soul for Asriel, and through a combined effort, he was able to break the barrier.[20]
- Chara and Asriel are the only ones who could cause problems to timeline changes. [21]
- Chara and Asriel have a better understanding of the game functions than Sans.[22]
