"Did you really hate him that much?"
Bête Noire to Toriel

Ḣ̸͈a̷̞̽ẗ̵̥́e̸̟͒ is the seventh episode of the second season of Glitchtale.

Synopsis[]

Chara confronts Asriel again, as Toriel and Asgore fight Bete in the arena. Papyrus and Sans head to the arena to assist, while Undyne tries to come to terms with her past actions.

Plot[]

Papyrus laments about how the others do not consider him fit for fighting due to his kind personality. He has been trying to prove that he can fight too, but after the battle at W. D. Gaster's House, Papyrus considers himself not fit for battle and a failure for not protecting the house, which quickly stirs him to tears. Sans, filled with Determination, approaches his brother, much to the latter's joy.

However, Sans explains that his determination will eventually kill him. When Sans asks the whereabouts of the "kid", Papyrus assumes that he is referring to Chara. Feeling confused, Sans questions if there was "another kid", since he is able to somewhat barely remember Frisk's existence, unlike anyone else, but he dismisses it. Due to Sans not being about to teleport for now, he and Papyrus ride the latter's Gaster Blaster as a vehicle.

At Toriel's Academy For Gifted Youngsters, Rave Rutrow receives a call from Jessica Grey giving him permission to use his magical technology. After they lose signal, he notices the Kumuzilla attacking Determino City. W. D. Gaster, in inner anguish, is teleported in Rave's campsite. Earlier before, Jessica allowed Rave to become the commander over the city after Bête Noire's War is over, apologized for Alina Grey Rutrow and stated that Noah Rutrow would be proud. Gaster tells Rave that he is now the city's leader, and gives a subtle revelation that Jessica has died by saying they all lost something today.

Gaster advises the utterly shocked Rave to stopping the Kumuzilla and allow him to protect the Determino City Arena. Rave uses a Healing Device to fix Gaster's broken legs, and a vengeful Gaster denies needing reinforcements. Before leaving, Gaster tells Rave to figure out how to defeat the Kumuzilla, but he is unsure. Rave then deducts that he can lure it away using high concentrations of magic, so he contacts Raven to bring the Avalon to the Determino City Park and set it to maximum power. While solemnly looking at his family photo from twenty years ago, Rave pretends to tell Noah that they would talk later.

Chara, Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel engage in conflict against Bête Noire and Asriel Dreemurr at the arena. After ambushing Bête with a Special Hell, Chara charges at Asriel, sending him outside for their duel. Asgore and Toriel keep Bête at bay by attempting to destroy her. In the middle of the city, Undyne, carrying an injured Ronan Cass, and Hugo Phenix hide in a safe area. Undyne is not willing to risk fighting because she thinks she is not good at protecting people, and Ronan pleads that they leave him here. The Kumuzilla suddenly tries to topple a building onto them, and Undyne, remembering Ronan's advice from earlier, uses her spears to hold against the rubble.

As she struggles, Undyne imagines herself talking with Alphys, who encourages her by reminding that what she loved about her was that she is strong and extremely passionate. Motivated and filled with determination, Undyne heals her scarred eye, transforms into The Undying and abolishes the rocks. Rave arrives at the scene to help, healing Ronan with his device, which is made of a metal that can contain magic called Arnicite. He then apologizes to Ronan for being rude earlier due to Rave being angry about something.

Rave is utterly shocked that Undyne destroyed that collapsing building moments ago, so he asks if she can destroy the Kumuzilla with her magic, to which she is uncertain but willing to do. Meanwhile, the bold Asgore and Toriel prepare to fight Bête, whose taunts do not faze them. While Bête utilizes their pyrokinesis, Asgore discerns the consciousness of Agate Lightvale in Bête. She takes advantage of Toriel's guilt by making her hallucinate Asgore killing the six human children, much to her horror. Asgore uses his full power against Bête, but she makes Toriel hallucinate Bête as Chara, and when an enraged Toriel thinks he is attacking Chara, she blasts a massive fireball at Asgore, heavily wounding him. Toriel shakes in horror at what she has done, and Bête asks her if she hates Asgore that much.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was originally meant to be combined with Animosity, but had been split due to timing issues.
  • When Asgore Dreemurr uses his blue and orange attacks, the amount of times his eyes flash is synchronized with how many times he strikes Bête Noire.
  • Rave Rutrow knows who W. D. Gaster is, and is aware of his past accomplishments. He is nervous yet quite excited to see him in his tent despite the fact that it was a war out there and now was definitely not the time for this.
  • Rave's Healing Device actually has limited uses. Currently, the maximum uses are two, since when he heals Ronan Cass, the green bar on the side is halved.
  • Sans does not remember Frisk. The most he is aware of is that another kid had existed, but cannot wrap his head around who it was.
  • Although Veir is credited as a co-writer, Camila Cuevas confirmed he was only a story consultant and that he had coerced her to credit him as one.[1]
